Robbert Suilen<\/strong> (1993) is a vocalist, guitarist and composer based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. His music blends folk-inspired storytelling, atmospheric textures and improvisation. From April 2026, he is Director of Muziekschool Amsterdam Noord<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Musician & Composer<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Solo<\/strong> \u2013 In June 2025 Robbert released his first single Sad Tune<\/a>, a calm and melancholic yet hopeful acoustic ballad built around fingerpicked guitar and an unpolished vocal take. Loveliest<\/a> <\/span>was released november 2025 as instrumental guitar and synth composition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2019t Z\u00fcden<\/strong> \u2013 Duo with Esther van der Heijden, reimagining Limburgian folk repertoire in a contemporary, intimate setting. Their shows include performances at De Roode Bioscoop (Amsterdam), Zomerparkfeest (Venlo), Parkstad Limburg Theaters, and national radio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Esther van Hees & Robbert Suilen<\/strong> \u2013 A songwriting duo exploring dreamy country, jazz and pop influences, inspired by artists such as Dolly Parton, Don McLean and Rufus Wainwright. Their song I wait, you know<\/a><\/span> <\/em>was released in 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With earlier groups such as Hireth<\/a><\/strong> (Indie-Jazz duo with Keri Vink) and Wander<\/a><\/strong> (vocal jazz trio with Babs van Bree and Ren\u00e9e Steenvoorden), Robbert performed and toured across Europe, releasing the albums Songs from the Garden<\/a><\/em> (2021) and For What May Come<\/em> <\/a>(2025).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Music Education<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Robbert teaches Vocal Technique at the Conservatory of Suriname, where he works with students on performance, artistry, and technical development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Amsterdam, he contributes to the knowledge exchange programme between Paramaribo and Muziekschool Amsterdam<\/a>, strengthening the connection between Surinamese and Dutch music education. The programme focuses on knowledge-sharing, curriculum development and creating pathways for young musicians in Suriname and The Netherlands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From April 2026, Robbert is Director of Muziekschool Amsterdam Noord<\/a>.<\/strong> His work focuses on accessible music education, curriculum development, and building strong local and international connections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Previously, he worked as Music Coordinator at Co de Cultuurontwikkelaar<\/strong><\/a> in Venlo (until April 2026).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Robbert Suilen studied at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where he obtained a Bachelor and Masters degree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
